The Experienced Plastic Machining UK Company
Experienced Plastic machining of turned parts and milled components.
Many enquiries arrive on our sales teams desks every day. The quality of, and experience of Sentinels team members, enables customers requirments to be expertly handled from those initial enquiries to final despatch. The addition of a production control system which, in conjunction with quality, enables close and accurate monitering of each and every order.
Experienced Plastic Machining Turned Parts
Firstly, referring to most engineering plastics, when turning you can go extremely quickly with your feeds and speeds. Examples of which are Acetal, Nylon, PTFE, ABS, PVC and so on. Most noteworthy, in most but not all cases, the chips stay together, forming a ribbon and are easily removed from your machine. Also, your tools won’t dull or wear (practically not at all). Standard high speed steel will be ample for turning every day engineering plastics. Whereas, Insulation industrial plastics require far more specialist care and techniques.
Next, it’s worth noting, you don’t need machining fluid. The surface finishes obtained, feel and look great, with high standards of tolerance and finish achieved. Finally, tools that cut steel or aluminium will generally work very well with most plastics. So much so, generally, there are no special tooling requirements!
Experienced Plastic Machining Milled Parts
Similarly, for milling most plastics, the above can be applied. Engineering plastics milled are again, fast speeds and feeds, with some exceptions and individual preferences. Moreover, when milling plastic, it can be less problematic than turning. Mainly due to the lack of a ribbon, continuous swarf, being generated. Importantly, Sentinel has a large capacity milling capability. With many machines dedicated to specific materials to prevent cross contamination. Also, as with turning, no coolants are required. Indeed, the use of coolants can be detrimental to many insulation materials.

Experienced Plastic Machining All Plastics
Ultimately, Sentinels experienced plastic machining capabilities, enable complex specialist components to be produced in all plastic materials. Virtually all Industrial laminated Materials available today can be Machined and Fabricated at Sentinel.
Offering customers a wealth of knowledge in the huge range of plastic materials in sheet, rod, fabricated and machined form.
Industrial laminates are different to engineering plastics as they are thermosets as opposed to thermoplastics. This means that during production they experience a chemical change and become set, hard solids that cannot be melted or remoulded once they have been cured. Engineering Plastics
Available in Copolymer and Homopolymer grades. A dimensionally stable material with good electrical properties and abrasion resistance. A range of polyofins Engineering Plastic also referred to as PE300, PE500 and PE1000. Used in various applications from pipe fittings, wear strips to conveyor systems in food processing environments.
Vastly Experienced Plastic Machining High Performance Materials
PTFE (Polytetrafluoroethylene) Engineering Plastic
Very good resistance to low and high temperature (up to 260°C), with low flammability and low friction coefficient. Available in a variety of filled grades.
PEEK (Polyetheretherketone) Engineering Plastic
Excellent mechanical strength, dimensional stability, a low coefficient of friction, very good chemical resistance.
Experience in all Plastic Machining Materials
Significantly, when asked, most anything can be produced. For example, simple wear strips, to complex 3D CNC turned, CNC milled and CNC routed components. These, all produced from the huge, extensive range of plastic materials available to today’s consumer. Including, but not limited to, Polypropylene, Delrin, UHMWPE, HDPE, Acrylic, PET, PVDF and Polycarbonate
Also included in the extremely large amount of Engineering Materials, which fall under Sentinels capabilities, include, PEEK, PTFE and Nylon, with Acetal, Tufnol and GPO3.
